Shagnasties spends its summers shaping yards out of Wasilla's birch and spruce lots, and its winters plowing the same driveways it landscaped months before, back when the same ground was green instead of buried. There's a specific kind of knowledge that comes from working a yard in both seasons, where the septic mound sits under three feet of snow, which corner of the driveway always drifts first when wind funnels down off the Talkeetnas. The valley's cold holds snow in place for months at a stretch, so a driveway plowed in November often needs no more than touch-ups until a real system rolls through in January. Between storms, the crew clears walkways and mailbox aprons, the small details a homeowner notices even when the big plowing job looks done. It's the same hands on the ground in both seasons, just different tools in the truck bed.
