Wasilla spreads out along a string of lakes, Wasilla Lake, Lake Lucille, the frozen edges of Lake Lucille Park, with birch and black spruce closing in around every side road. K & K works that layout house by house, plowing driveways that curve back through the trees far enough that a homeowner can lose sight of the mailbox in a real storm. The valley catches weather differently than the coast: colder, drier, snow that squeaks underfoot and piles rather than blows, at least until a Knik wind picks up and moves it all sideways. A morning route might run past frozen lake access, church lots and long gravel driveways alike, clearing each one back to the gravel before the day's traffic starts. By afternoon, with low sun cutting flat across the snowfields, the lanes it opened that morning are still open.
