Some winters Valdez collects more snow than any road system in North America is really built for, and Roger's has built a business around exactly that fact. When a system rolls off the Gulf and stalls against the Chugach, the plow doesn't run a route once, it runs the same streets three and four times before the storm lets go. Keystone Canyon holds its own weather just outside town, and what comes down through it often outpaces whatever fell the day before. The work leans toward driveways and lots buried past a shovel's reach, opening a path back to the street rather than just clearing what fell that morning. When the sky finally clears over Port Valdez and the mountains show themselves white to the waterline, the streets are already bare, waiting for the next system already lining up offshore.
