Dutch Harbor's dock apron is where the fishing fleet's daily work concentrates, crab boats and draggers rafted three deep against the pilings, forklifts and pickups threading between them at all hours. A Bering Sea squall can lay an inch of wet snow across that apron in twenty minutes, and a slick dock with boats offloading is not a risk anyone here takes lightly. So the plow runs the apron, the ramps and the roads back to the processing plants before the next boat ties up, working around gear, pallets and the rhythm of a fleet that never really stops. Fog and wind trade places with sun through a single shift, and the snow that falls one hour can be gone the next, but while it's down, it comes off the dock. This is a working harbor first, and keeping its ground underfoot solid is its own kind of tide to keep up with.
