Sterling sits where the Moose River folds into the Kenai, and in June the light barely leaves, so the grass here comes up in a hurry and keeps on coming. B&B Landscape keeps pace with it — mowing through the long green evenings, trimming close along fence lines and spruce roots, cutting an edge so clean you can see exactly where a yard decides to become gravel. Off the Sterling Highway and out across the flats toward Skilak, these lawns are carved from birch and cottonwood, and holding one open means coming back to it. There's a real satisfaction in the last pass of the day, clippings hauled off and beds pulled clear, a place looking tended under a sky that still hasn't gone dark. By August, when the fireweed tops out and the rain settles over the peninsula, the work turns to cleanup: leaves, matted grass, the yard set in order before the cold.
