Snow lingers long at Mosquito Lake, banked deep along the Haines Highway well after the coast has turned green, so spring arrives late and all at once. When the ground finally opens beside the lake and along the Klehini River, J & J Hydroseeding turns to lawns: seeding bare ground, mowing what has come back and tidying yards scraped thin by winter. There is real joy in watching seeded soil turn from brown to a soft green haze in a few warm weeks under the mountains.
