By mid-October the light out at Clover Pass gives up around five, and the yards near Knudson Cove hold a low bronze color for an hour before the dark takes them. North Star Landscaping is out in that hour with the truck lights on, finishing the last mow of the run and pulling needles and leaf drop off the grass. Fall cleanup up here is not decoration — matted debris left on a soaked lawn will smother it before spring gets a chance. So it is done all the way through: mowed down, trimmed back, edges recut, everything raked and carried off. A yard put to bed properly in the dark end of autumn comes up better when the light finally returns.
