About South Peninsula Dirt Works

South Peninsula Dirt Works spends its summers shaping gravel roads and building pads across the southern Kenai Peninsula, and it's that same knowledge of the ground that makes its winter plowing work: knowing exactly where a driveway crowns, where it dips, and where a culvert sits under the snow. Out toward Anchor Point and back into the spruce along the ridges above Homer, a lot of these roads are dirt and gravel rather than pavement, and a plow blade set wrong can do as much damage as the snow itself. The company works those roads the way it built them, low and careful, clearing down to a firm surface rather than bare dirt so the frost underneath stays where it belongs. Storms here often blow in off the Gulf of Alaska with little warning, turning a gravel lane into a drifted-over guess of where the road used to be. Cutting that guess back into a road you can drive, morning after morning, is really just the winter half of the same work.
