About Deadtree Design

Haines takes its cue from the mountain: when the snow line climbs Mount Ripinsky and the cottonwoods leaf out along the creeks, it is time to bring the lawns back. Deadtree Design opens the season's lawn work with that first May mowing, when grass that spent the long winter under snow comes up shaggy and uneven along the fences. Yards get trimmed, edged and raked out until they sit neatly against the gravel, with Lynn Canal glinting blue below town. There is something hopeful in that first cut, a sharp green line drawn beneath peaks still holding winter. From there the long northern summer runs its course, and the mower follows it all the way to fall.
