The Eagle River comes down glacier-cold out of the Chugach and cuts the valley that gives this community its name, and every school-day morning through the winter, Anchorage Snow Pros is out ahead of the buses making sure the side streets off the valley floor are clear before the first pickup. The routes follow the river loosely, working driveway to driveway through subdivisions tucked against the mountains, with the peaks themselves usually still dark when the plows start. Snow off the Chugach face tends to come heavier here than down in the bowl, so routes get run twice on the bigger storm mornings — once for access, once to finish the edges properly. By the time the sun clears the ridge and lights up the valley, the driveways are done and the kids are already at their desks. It's steady, early work, built around a schedule that has nothing to do with the plow crew and everything to do with the school bell.
